Breathwork Preparation + Integration + FAQ
-
Wear comfortable clothing
Ensure you have privacy to be fully expressed with whatever surfaces during the session. A space with a door that closes and asking housemates not to disturb you are helpful.
Prepare any materials that will support your journey. This may include: headphones, a journal, pillows, blankets, eye mask, water
I recommend a light schedule for the remainder of your day after breathwork to allow for easeful integration. Ideally, give yourself at least 1-2 hours before diving back into electronics and the rush of work.
It’s best to avoid drinking alcohol or consuming mind altering substances 24 hours before and after a session.

Breathwork is similar to a long guided meditation but it can bring up sensations, emotions, and memories. The practice itself can last 60-90mins, but I recommend engaging with this when you have ample spaciousness to drop in and integrate.
The breathing pattern can cause interesting sensations including dizziness, tingling, feeling hot/cold, or stiff limbs. All of this is normal and temporary, but if anything feels painful - discontinue and breathe normally.

It’s common for emotions to come up during this practice. As much as you can, let it flow and trust that it’s moving through you to lighten the load. If it becomes too much, brings up something you’re not ready to feel, or is re-traumatizing, come back to your natural rhythm of breath, open your eyes, and discontinue the practice. This practice is safe for all healthy individuals. If you are pregnant, keep your breath deep and slow and disregard my cues to quicken the pace to prioritize safety. If anything feels off, trust the wisdom of your body and discontinue the practice. If you have any chronic or acute health issues we advise you to speak to a healthcare professional before trying 3-part breath. We do not recommend this breath practice if you are suffer from epilepsy, high blood pressure treated with prescription medication, coronary heart disease, a history of severe health issues such as heart attack or stroke.

Journal / Reflect:
What did I learn about myself? How do I feel called to move forward? Is there something that wants to shift in my life as a result of this experience?
Helpful Practices:
Spend time in nature
Stay well hydrated and drink lots of water
Eat a grounding plant protein-rich meal (beans, root veggies, whole grains, etc)
Take an epsom salt bath to cleanse (a hot shower works too!)
Tend to your altar to connect with ancestors and guides
Share about your experience with trusted loved ones
If big emotions or triggers linger, reach out to a trusted professional for additional support. You are welcome to email me or book a private session as well.
Whole, worthy and divine– just as you are, nothing to prove. This is your innate truth. Sometimes we get caught up chasing accomplishments and accolades thinking that once we arrive at the income level, career, and relationship then we’ll be worthy. Shed the shackles of this lie and remember that you were born worthy. Remembering your innate wholeness, worthiness, and divinity is the core foundation of any healing or manifestation practice. Recorded on New Years Eve 2023, this is a renewal of your internal sense of self-worth to embody the frequency of “I got this!” energy.

Remember your power to shape change, even (and especially) when things feel hopeless. Systems of oppression cloud our vision of what’s possible and keep us thinking small. We obsess over everything we want to destroy and dismantle– but what do you want to create in its place? This practice uses imagination as a powerful tool of decolonization to dream beyond the current conditions.

When we witness the violence of colonization, the grief we feel isn’t just our own– it’s ancestral. It activates a cellular memory of displacement in our own lineage. This practice was created to channel the heartbreak of genocide in Palestine, but can be applied to any social justice issue that has activated collective grief and ancestral trauma. Let’s feel into the heartache to stay connected to our humanity. We go within not to turn away from the suffering, but to cultivate the spiritual strength to do something about it.

Radical self-care is fundamental to the success and sustainability of our social justice movements. As a fellow advocate and organizer, I want you to achieve the big dreams you have for equity, peace, and liberation– and in order to do that, you need space to rest and renew. This breathwork journey is for the changemaker who feels overwhelmed by compassion fatigue and is on the edges of burnout. For the bleeding heart helper constantly questioning if you’re doing enough and struggling to slow down because you fear the communities you care about will suffer. Consider this a safe landing to be real about how you feel amidst so much pressure to pretend and keep pushing. You’ll leave feeling at ease in your body, clear in your mind, at peace in your spirit, and reconnected to the heart of your work.
